I feel like I grew up in the Golden Age of kids cartoons. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Street Sharks, Biker Mice From Mars and Samurai Pizza Cats all hold a dear place on my heart. As does the original Power Rangers. Man, I had all the Zoid toys and figurines (Green Ranger for life!), and watched the show all the way through until the release of that wonderful movie back in 1995.

Then things got weird, with things like R.P.M, Dino-Riders and Turbo coming out. Not to mention all the other numerous movies and tie-ins. So when it was confirmed that there would be a movie reboot (and that it had nothing to do with the fan made Power/Rangers trailer kicking around on youtube), I didn’t really pay any attention to it. I mean, why kick a dead horse?

Then I started to see pictures of the new Rangers and Rita Repulsa, with what their costumes are going to look like. A bit more sci-fi, more alien looking than anything previously. Again I was worried. These were not the Power Rangers I grew up with. Why are you ruining my childhood!

This is not the Rita I remember…

Now, this past weekend at New York Comic Con, we have finally seen a trailer for the new movie, which you can watch here. I’ve watched it…and I’m actually interested now. I know it’s not going to be the adult, gritty version that I really wish it was going to be (Seriously, check out the Power/Rangers trailer on youtube here if you haven’t seen it), but I am optimistic that it won’t be a soul-crushing disaster either.

We also received a bunch more information about the movie. Goldar has been confirmed and I am pretty keen to see the new look. It also seems like the base story has changed somewhat; As opposed to 5 school kids that have been summoned by an extra-terrestrial being to protect the Earth from evil unknown, according to the trailer it now seems like these five unlikely heroes stumble across an alien wreck, and at least initially struggle to come to terms with the changes happening around them.

They certainly look a little more alien than they did previously

I originally wrote this movie off. But now, after seeing this trailer, I’m kinda interested. Sure, I expect the movie will be a teen-drama extravaganza along the lines of Twilight, but from what I have seen so far, I’ll still watch it. The movie itself is due for release in March 2017. Between now and then, I will be keeping my eye out for more details on other characters, and hopefully some full images of the Zords.

Let us know your thoughts on this reboot in the comments!
