Welcome to 2018!

We here at Ultra Super Mega hope that you had a relaxing and stress-free Christmas and New Year, and enjoyed any time off work that you might have had.

We also want to thank you for coming along for the ride with us again in 2018. You, our community, are why we do what we do.

We said a few times last year that we thought 2017 was one of the best years in recent memory for the gaming industry, with some mammoth releases hitting the shelves. It looks like 2018 won’t be any different, with another huge line up slated for the year! So without any more mucking around, let’s have a look at what we can expect to play in January!

The Games

AO Tennis – Tuesday, 16th of January (PS4, XBone)

Quality studio bringing a much loved and much missed sporting game back to consoles. Big Ant studios have really made some great games of late with Cricket, Rugby League and even Lacrosse all being great versions of games other developers wont touch. – Peter Wilkinson

I’ve never really been one to play the multitude of Sports games that get released every year. I can’t say I am going to pick this one up either – Josh Perkins

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory – Friday, 19th of January 2018 (PS4)

I played Cyber Sleuth on my PS Vita and really enjoyed my time with it. This title is definitely on my buying list for early 2018. – Josh Perkins

Nah – Peter Wilkinson

Lost Sphear – Tuesday, 23rd of January (PS4, Switch)

RPG from Square Enix, can’t be a bad thing if that is what you are looking for. – Peter Wilkinson

I’m still working my way through Xenoblade 2 from December on the Switch, and feel like that RPG is going to keep me going for a long while. With that said, Square Enix usually make some pretty decent RPG’s, so this may be worth a look – Josh Perkins

The Inpatient VR – Wednesday, 24th of January (PSVR)

Scary VR game, no thank you but it would be interesting to see the story of what happened 60 years before Until Dawn, but still nope. – Peter Wilkinson

I haven’t had the spare capital top get myself a VR headset yet, so this one is a nope from me – Josh Perkins

Dragonball FighterZ – Friday, 26th of January (PS4, XBone)

I have never been much of a fighting game guy. Mat always, always beats me at them. But, I had a chance to play this at Pax AUS last year, and it felt really good. I think I’m going to need to pick this one up! – Josh Perkins

Another Fighting game, yay, what a time to be alive. That being said, it does  look amazing and the style seems really cool. The fighting community seems to be already behind it and it will be one of the reasons to get excited about the start of 2018. – Peter Wilkinson

Monster Hunter World – Friday, 26th of January (PS4, XBone)

I’m still a little on the fence about this one, personally. I want to buy it, and I want to enjoy it. I’m just not 100% confident that this is the right game for me. – Josh Perkins

This is my pick of games to get in January 2018. The world looks amazing and the fact that we have a fully featured Monster Hunter game coming to the big boy consoles is something to be excited about. If there is one game to get this month then this is it. – Peter Wilkinson

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT – Tuesday, 30th of January (PS4)

Forgot this was still even a thing, pass – Peter Wilkinson

I played the Beta for this sometime last year, and found the combat system really….weird. As much as I enjoy the Final Fantasy universe, this just simply was not a fun game to me – Josh Perkins
