So, has anyone actually gotten any sleep since Destiny released last month? I know I have been having some issues balancing my Destiny addiction as well as all the other non-essentials in life, like work, sleeping and eating.

But here we are, at the start of October, and looking at what I think is going to be seriously the busiest month of the year. We have so much hitting us and happening this month, it’s bloody unbelievable.

So let’s not drag this on any longer than we need to, and get into what’s arriving in October!

The Shows

Penny Arcade Expo, Australia (PAX AUS) – Friday the 27th of October to Sunday the 29th of October

This is going to be freaking amazing. Not only will this be my first time in Melbourne, it will also be my first PAX. I am so damn excited, and the fact that I get to do this with the awesome USM Team. Keep an eye glued to our webpage and social media to get all the news and our thought’s on the show! – Josh Perkins

Happy to say that the entirety of the core team is going down this year. It’s all booked in and we’re ready to roll. Can’t wait. – Joey Hedrick

This is like Christmas for me because it is that time of the year when the whole community gets together in the one place to celebrate gaming. If you have not been to a PAX show before then you should start planning for next years event. Not only will I catch up with mates from around Australia that I just don’t ever get to see any other time of the year but I will get hands on with some amazing locally made indie titles and huge up and coming AAA titles. There is simple no other show like it all year in Australia. – Peter Wilkinson

The Games

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen – Tuesday, 3rd of October (PS4, XBone)

I did not know that this was being re-released. Dragon’s Dogma was an amazing game when I played it on PS3 with my wife even getting into it. I know it’s a re-release, but I think I’m going to have to pick this back up – Josh Perkins

Middle Earth: Shadow of War – Wednesday, 11th of October (PS4, XBone, PC)

Oh man. I only recently finished Shadow of Mordor, and that was a great game. I so want to play this….but I do not want to support the micro-transaction culture that is so prevalent in the industry at the moment. – Josh Perkins

The first game in the series was my game of the year in 2014 and only one thing can hold this game back from doing the same thing this year. Yes the dreaded microtransaction controversy really derailed this game’s moment it had been building up. I will be getting the game at launch and I am keen to jump right back into the nemesis system which is the best system in gaming. I understand why others are hesitant on getting the game because of the loot chests but I really hope it doesn’t hurt the game play and we can be talking about how good this game was at the end of the year. – Peter Wilkinson

The Evil Within 2 – Friday, 13th of October (PS4, XBone, PC)

Not my style of game at all but if you are a fan of survival horror games then this is a title you shouldn’t sleep on this year. Looks super scary and absolutely scary. – Peter Wilkinson

Friday the 13th: The Game – Friday, 13th of October (PS4, XBone)

This is actually a pretty good game! My wife has been playing this on the XBone pretty regularly, and is having a great time playing it. With that said….it is pretty buggy. So don’t pick this up expecting a diamond – Josh Perkins

South Park: The Fractured But Whole – Tuesday, 17th of October (PS4, XBone, PC)

Yet another game that could steal away the game of the year award in a stellar year for gaming. So many delays but every time we see or hear more about this title it just gets better. I will be skipping this game at this stage but when things slow down over Christmas I will try and pick it up and have a go at it. If you like RPG’s this is a must get. – Peter Wilkinson

NBA 2K18 – Tuesday, 17th of October (Switch)

I know my brother Mat loves NBA 2K18. If you have been thinking about picking it up, make sure you read his review on the website! – Josh Perkins

Elex – Tuesday, 17th of October (PS4, XBone, PC)

This is something I’ll have a look at. Billed as a sort of sci-fi fantasy hybrid with stereotypes and cliches being turned on their head. From the developers of the Risen series which are pretty good RPGs in their own right. – Joey Hedrick

Gran Turismo Sport Day One Edition – Wednesday, 18th of October (PS4)

YES! This series is so good and one of my favourite in gaming. This however feels like a very vital point in the franchise’s history and it could spell the end if it doesn’t perform well. I don’t know if this is going to be good but I really can’t wait to see what they bring this time. – Peter Wilkinson

Iconoclasts – Wednesday, 18th of October (PC, PS4, PSVita)

This game has been in development for fucking YONKS. I remember seeing it what must have been 5 years ago and I’m pretty sure it effectively revitalised my interest in Metroidvania games. Then it never came out. I’m shocked to actually see it nestled into the October releases on Steam so we’ll see if it actually pans out. Hopefully it doesn’t become vapourware after all this time. – Joey Hedrick

Rogue Trooper Redux – Wednesday, 18th of October (PC, PS4, XBone)

A pretty standard third person shooter from Rebellion but certainly a must for fans of the 2000AD comic universe. Being a huge Judge Dredd fan it’s certainly on my list. – Joey Hedrick

Destiny 2 – Tuesday, 24th of October (PC release)

Destiny 2 on PS4 has ruled my life and even though it has it’s issues I really can’t wait to join my PC mates for the fun that Bungie has got right in this amazing title. Will the gunplay transfer across to PC is the big worry but at this stage it is just a great game to play with friends so that will do me. – Peter Wilkinson

Super Mario Odyssey – Friday, 27th of October (Switch)

Soooooooooo keen! The only bad thing about this is that it releases on the first day of PAX! I will be in Melbourne, and my pre-order will be in Mackay! – Josh Perkins

Looking for a reason to get a Switch? This is a pretty good one but I’ll still wait for a little more info before I dive in. – Joey Hedrick

I have worries about this title but it is just another game that i am getting when it releases and I can’t wait to dive right into a Nintendo made Mario title. It looks to be great fun and honestly if you have a Nintendo Switch or you want one you will be getting this game and once again it will be talked about at the end of the year as one of the year’s best titles. – Peter Wilkinson

Assassins Creed: Origins – Friday, 27th of October (PS4, XBone)

I know the last few Assassins Creed games have been steaming piles of dog shit. I agree with you all there. I’m still going to give this a go though, and write a review for you all. Then you can read it and make a decision if you want to play it or not. See, I’m taking one for the team. Aren’t I a nice guy? – Josh Perkins

I could not be more on the fence about this title and I want to be keen to dive back into the franchise but there is so much that worries me about this title. It will be a wait and see for me especially with it’s launch date being the same day as so many more massive things in gaming culture. – Peter Wilkinson

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – Friday, 27th of October (PS4, XBone, PC)

By all accounts the first in this series of reboots was thoroughly entertaining so I expect this to be more of the same. Machine Games have done well for themselves under Bethesda’s publishing arm much like id Software have done with the DOOM reboot. I always enjoy a good alternate history story, really makes me think about what life would have been like if things went differently during World War 2. – Joey Hedrick

If you are a first person shooter fan please get this title, it will be great and we need more single player focused shooters with great storylines. The only thing that will hurt this game is it’s release date, it could be overshadowed in such a big way. Once again it is a title I will be skipping for now and I will grab it when things slow down over the break. – Peter Wilkinson

Grim Dawn: Ashes of Malmouth – October sometime (PC)

I’ve recently starting running up a new character specifically in preparation of the expansion to my favourite RPG of last year. There’s about 50% more content in pretty much every realistic metric and more in one or two others. I’ve just ticked over the 250 hours mark so I dare say I’ll be adding another 100 in the months to come. – Joey Hedrick
