August Outlook 2016

Wow! This year is just flying by! We are already in August, and we are starting the run of big releases up to the Christmas Holiday Season. Man, these next 4 months are going to be amazing!!

Check out what we here at Ultra Super Mega are really excited for in August!

The Consoles

Xbox One S – Tuesday, August 2nd

I’m not a big Xbox fan, really. While I have an XBone, I prefer to spend most of my gaming time on the PS4. As such, I do not really know to much about the Xbox One S. I will be interested to see what it is all about.

The Games

Abzû – Tuesday, August 2nd (PS4, PC)

I am a sucker for exploration games of late, and Abzû looks beautiful, in all its underwater glory. – Mitchell Townley

Batman: The Telltale Series – Tuesday August 2nd (PS4, XBone, PC, PS3, X360, Mobile)

Not a huge fan of the Telltale games of the past but there is something cool about the series letting you play just as much of the game as Bruce Wayne then as Batman. The world’s greatest detective can be the centre of this game and that’s what it needs to succeed. Problem will be that this is just episode 1, no idea how long the wait is till episode 2. – Peter Wilkinson

No Man’s Sky – Wednesday, August 10th (PS4, PC)

Preordered. Paid Off. Impatiently waiting. I hope that this game delivers the experience I have been led to believe it will! – Josh Perkins

ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!! So I cannot wait to see all the inappropriately named planets, and name some myself. Oh and space exploration, who could forget that. – Mitchell Townley

Been on and off this HYPE train so many times. One foot is back on it but still worried. Just want my hands on it now. I am actually looking forward to playing this with my 5 year old, I think that will be the most exciting part. – Peter Wilkinson

Just don’t expect too much from this game and you will come away pleased. No Man’s Sky started off as an indie title and after impressing the entire world with its trailers during events, it has become a triple A game, at least in a marketing sense. But at its heart, No Man’s Sky is an indie game, made by a small team of talented people. Don’t go in expecting things they haven’t shown off like superb fps style gameplay, sleek and feature rich multiplayer or large scale boss fights and loot. Because if you do, you will walk away disappointed. Personally, I am really excited to sink some time into this wonderful exploration experience. Discovering new worlds and watching how far Hello Game’s intelligent algorithms can push the boundaries of evolution. Because that is what they have shown. Anything on top of that, is just a bonus – Mathew Perkins

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Tuesday, August 23rd (PS4, XBone, PC)

Probably my most anticipated game of August. I loved Human Revolution, and can remember the first time I watched Mat playing Invisible War when that was new, all the way back in 2003. Invisible War was my first foray into the world of Deus Ex, and I have loved it ever since. The fact that mankind probably isn’t all that far away from this point technologically today both scares and amazes me, and makes the game feel that much more real – Josh Perkins

Yeah, keen on this one. I have played each and every Deus Ex title up until now. (Including 2003’s tragic Invisible War) I’ve always enjoyed the story behind each game, the bleak, distopian, cyber-noir future that is painted for humanity is as intriguingly exciting as it is threateningly real. – Mathew Perkins

Madden NFL ‘17 – Thursday, August 25th (PS4, XBone, PS3, X360)

I wish I had the time to pick this title up. – Mathew Perkins

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom – Friday, August 26th (PS4, XBone)

I’ve read a bunch of the manga and got halfway through the 1st season of the anime series. The premise and promise of AOT is fantastic. But for whatever reason, I find the reality of the series much more stale. If I have spare cash, I’ll pick this game up, but after sinking around 10 repetitive hours into the PS Vita title, Shingeki-no-kyojin (Attack on Titan) released in Feb of 2015, my hype for the AOT videogame franchise was quelled. – Mathew Perkins

World of Warcraft: Legion – (PC)

I wonder how many people will be out at 3am hunting Pokemon once this is released? WoW never really grabbed me when it was first released, and I ended up spending a lot of my MMO days playing Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 (Fifty Shades of Bear represent!), but I am interested to see how the release of this expansion goes – Josh Perkins

Now Legion is not something I thought I was looking forward to, until they released the pre patch and realised how much they changed the classes. Feels like a breath of fresh air in an aging game. – Mitchell Townley

I lost 2 years of my life to this fucking game. Standing around Dalaran waiting for raids. I won’t be coming back. Fuck World of Warcraft. – Mathew Perkins

Resident Evil 4  – Tuesday, August 30th (PS4, XBone)

I don’t tend to like remasters but this game was probably the best in the series. Any chance to play this again before the next installment is probably worth it. In fact, play this and forget five and six exist and go straight into seven early next year. – Peter Wilkinson

I should probably pick this up considering I have never played the original. I know, I know, crucify me. – Mathew Perkins

Darkest Dungeon – (PS4 and Vita)

Whilst the date has not been given the developer is hoping for a late July early August window for this sleeper hit of 2016. This rogue like is amazing on PC. The different scenarios it throws at you are crazy. Not only is there health bars but stress bars and if a character gets too stressed anything could and does happen. Once this drops do yourself a favour and get it. – Peter Wilkinson

Livelock – Tuesday, August 2nd (PS4, XBone, PC)

It says “Coming Soon” on Steam but we’ve got dates scattered about the interwebs that point to what’s above. What we’re looking at here is a co-op Diablo-esque isometric shooter. That’s enough buzzwords and jargon to get me interested in anything. The premise is fun (robots shooting the shit out of other robots) and the promise of customisable rigs is enticing to say the least. – Joey Hedrick

The Turing Test – “August” (Xbone, PC)

I like a good puzzle game. Especially puzzle games that make use of 3D space like Portal and The Talos Principle. This entry into that quite niche category looks to add in some 3deep5me story as well which I could take or leave to be perfectly honest. Give me a mental challenge with the puzzles and then I’ll study the message. – Joey Hedrick

Worms W.M.D – Wednesday, August 24th (PS4, XBone, PC)

Come on, who doesn’t love the Worms games? – Joey Hedrick

GOD EATER 2 Rage Burst – Tuesday, August 30th (PS4)

The PC has had a few small wins in the department of slapping big monsters around. The release of Earth Defence Force 4.1 most recently and Toukiden: Kiwami before that. The imminent release of God Eater 2, and apparently the expansion God Eater Resurrection along with it, looks to continue that trend. This is a Monster Hunter type game with a bit of a stylistic difference to it and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. – Joey Hedrick

Fucking Capcom, just release a Monster Hunter on PS4 already! The Vita is a half dead handheld and everyone knows it. In saying that, I’m excited for this game. – Mathew Perkins

The Movies

Suicide Squad – Thursday, August 4th

As I have said before, I love DC Comics. I loved the Batman V Superman Movie. I gotta say, I’m a little worried about Suicide Squad…And I think it’s because of Jared Leto’s Joker. He’s just not…Joker to me. But, I’ll still go see it – Josh Perkins

Personally I am more of a marvel fan, but I do have a soft spot for DC. Fingers crossed they have done this justice and doesn’t just flop like so many superhero movies have in the past. – Mitchell Townley

Of all the DC movies out there this is the one I want to see. Went on media blackout on this after the second trailer. Harley Quinn will be magic on the big screen. Just hope the rest of the villains can keep up with her. – Peter Wilkinson

The best Harley Quinn to never be Harley Quinn was Bellatrix Lestrange from the HP series and that Joker (hahaha?) I think the costume designers are genuinely jus havin’ a laff. Other than that, I don’t really have any worthwhile comments regarding this movie. – Mathew Perkins

Sausage Party – Thursday, August 11th

This is not a kids movie. This is a movie for adults. And i really think I’m going to enjoy the hell out of it – Josh Perkins

Now I also thought this was a kids movie, until they start swearing in that first trailer. Looks like it should be a good laugh. – Mitchell Townley

Go on, turn off safesearch and try typing in ‘Sausage Party Movie’ into google. I dare you. – Mathew Perkins
