Where to begin? I have an intense love/hate relationship with Dota. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the game. I’ve made many long lived friendships with people I’ve played the game with, some of which I’ll probably never get to meet in person because they live overseas.
I hate it. I hate that I want to play it all the time even though it’s so damn hard to get a hard fought, even match for a myriad of reasons. I hate that it has stopped me from playing so many other good games over the last 10 years. (Yes, I’ve been playing Dota for 10 years and I’m still bad at it.) I hate that I can’t just multiply myself by 5 and have a team ready to go at the drop of the hat that I know will at least TRY to work with me.
And yet I love it. The closest victories give you and your teammates the greatest feeling of triumph. The biggest comebacks make you want to rub that cocky bastard on the other teams’ face in it. The game keeps reinventing itself when you start to think it’s getting stale. The arcade could be the dawn of a new Warcraft 3-esque map scene which gave rise to Dota in the first place.
There’s also a new patch out. Icefrog may have gone mad, in a good way. There are lots of buffs, nerfs and nine (9!) new items. Still no sign of Pit Lord though. I’m the type of guy who will read the patch notes ten times over and still find new things that will be awesome to try so I suggest you get stuck in and find something awesome for yourself.
